About

The name Twin Island Gallery refers to the gallery’s location on the harbour’s edge (overlooking both Mākaro/ Ward Island and Matiu/ Somes Island) and also nods to its connection to Aotearoa/ New Zealand as an island nation.

In 2020 creative Niki Pennington formed Twin Island Gallery.

“It’s been a lifelong dream to have a combined art studio and gallery space” says Niki.

The daughter of artist Suzy Pennington and product designer Mark Pennington (of Formway), Niki has creativity baked into her DNA.

“I’m now a Mum of three school-aged children, married to a third generation ‘Eastbourner’, Andrew Cathie. I couldn’t imagine a more inspiring location to live, create and bring up a family than on the shores of Eastbourne” beams Niki.

Twin Island Gallery and Atelier “glows, gem-like in The French Quarter” says Niki referring to her location. “I love the energy and buzz Laurent(Loudeac)and Camille (Furminieux)owners of Tartines French Cafe, brings to the courtyard, not to mention the food. Attracting locals and visitors from outside the region. Hearing conversations in French outside my door takes me back to time spent in Europe.”

Before calling Eastbourne home, Niki lived in New York and London after completing a MFA in Switzerland from the prestigious Schule für Gestaltung Basel. While working as a creative overseas she always made time for painting and exhibiting.

Prior to establishing Twin Island Gallery, Niki co-founded The Pennington’s (an award winning design consultancy) with her brother Michael.
